Experience

Rosemary Carucci Goss gave leadership to the development of the first residential property management program in the United States and served as a member of the faculty steering committee that developed the interdisciplinary Program in Real Estate. Goss is the Residential Property Management Advisory Board Professor of Housing and the associate director of the Program in Real Estate.

Her leadership in developing these programs has been recognized by two national associations. The National Apartment Association elected her to the charter board of directors of the National Apartment Association Education Institute in 2004 and awarded her the organization’s first Apartment Career and Education Award in 2006. In 2013, she was selected to serve on the Institute for Property Management’s first Education Council and was recently recognized by IREM as one of the “Women Changing the World of Real Estate Management.”

Goss, a faculty member at Virginia Tech for more than three decades, is an award-winning teacher having received two certificates of teaching excellence, an excellence in undergraduate advising award and the university’s academic career advising award. She regularly teaches the following courses: Careers in Real Estate, Professional Development in Real Estate, Introduction to Residential Property Management, Contemporary Issues in Property Management, and Marketing and Managing Housing for Later Life. She has also taught Managing Affordable and Specialized Housing, Consumer Housing, and Housing: Energy and the Environment.

Her research interests include lifestyles and housing choice with a special interest in multifamily housing, constraints to quality housing, housing for an aging population, and career development issues in property management and real estate. She has published in numerous journals including Housing Policy Debate, Housing and Society, Seniors Housing & Care Journal, Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences Research Journal, Journal of Property Management, Apartment Professional, and Family Relations. She has served as Associate Editor of Housing and Society and has served as a reviewer for numerous journals.

Goss has provided leadership to professional organizations and Virginia Tech. She has served as president of the Housing Education and Research Association and the Virginia Family and Consumer Science Association. She has served on numerous committees for the National Apartment Association, the Institute for Real Estate Management, the American Real Estate Association, and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Her extensive committee work at Virginia Tech was recognized by her induction into Virginia Tech’s Academy of Service.
