For Katie, the allure of real estate was irresistible — a vibrant, dynamic field abundant with endless possibilities. Despite not being particularly fond of numbers, she discovered that real estate was a domain where she could thrive and reach great heights, thanks to the influence of her mentors and the diverse paths available. The industry’s inherent opportunities and its dynamic nature made it a perfect fit for her personality.
Her enthusiasm for real estate was further secured by the relationships she formed and the challenges she overcame during her studies. Reflecting on her most memorable project, Katie mentioned the significant impact of a due diligence report. It was incredibly challenging but also brought her group closer together. The need for collaboration and teamwork made it both difficult and rewarding.
Katie's leadership journey began with her role as a peer mentor, a position she held for two years. Being a peer mentor allowed her to guide first-year students through experiences she had already navigated, giving her an automatic leadership role. This experience prepared her for her career by teaching her to appreciate and take advantage of mentorship and advice from those above her.
Her persistence and dedication paid off when she interned with Cushman & Wakefield starting in the summer of 2023. Katie connected with the brokerage team during a career fair, and her hard work during the internship impressed the team. Despite first reservations about hiring brokers straight out of college, her determination led to a full-time position as an associate broker. She said, "If you want something, stay persistent and work for it. The opportunities are endless." By staying focused and using the support of Blackwood, Katie unlocked many opportunities for her career.
