November 13, 2018
Ginny Richards, a Senior Real Estate student at Virginia Tech, has been awarded the 2018 UCREW Future Leaders Kathy Ivins Scholarship. The recipient is selected by the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Chapter of Richmond. To receive the scholarship, a student must be full-time at Virginia Tech, Virginia State University, or Virginia Union University, have maintained a minimum of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrate interest in a career in commercial real estate.
Ginny was able to attend the CREW Richmond Leadership Summit on November 8th at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture. At this event, attendees were able to hear from keynote speaker Jess Ekstrom, the Founder and CEO of Headbands of Hope. Ginny was also able to attend sessions on ethical leadership, personal branding, and receiving and giving feedback.
Ginny had this to say about her experience:
"This CREW Richmond event included a wonderful breakfast, and afterwards we had our keynote speaker, Jess Ekstrom, talk to us about leadership and overcoming failures. Then, we split up into separate breakout sessions, the one I attended being "The Brand of You" which taught how to bring out your own personal brand to enhance your career. Lastly, we had a great panel discussion from 3 women about the Me Too movement in the workplace. This leadership summit was very beneficial and enhanced my experience as a female real estate major getting ready to enter the CRE industry."
