Some Virginia Tech students opted to study abroad in Dubai for their Spring Break this year. The Virginia Tech Program in Real Estate sent 12 students to the United Arab Emirates to learn about the incredible growth of the city of Dubai. These students were able to immerse themselves in the culture there and gained an appreciation for how far Dubai has come in the last 60 years, now being one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
On this trip, students visited many sties and projects, and were given presentations on how some development feats were accomplished. They met with Nakheel to learn about the development of the Palm Jumeirah and how over 70 kilometers of coastline with these man-made islands. The students also met with Six Construct and toured the construction site of the new Royal Atlantis.
Students also enjoyed the view from the top of the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa, and learned about Islamic culture at the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding. They explored the city in their free time, and even took a trip to Abu Dhabi!
Sydney Helms, a senior Real Estate major, said "Going to Dubai was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had! We got exposure to many facets of real estate, from visiting the World Expo 2020 site to touring the construction site of the Royal Atlantis. We met with several companies, including Nakheel, the developer of The Palms. Dubai is truly unlike any other place in the world and I am so happy I had this opportunity!"
