Dustin Read named William and Mary Alice Park Junior Faculty Fellow
Dustin Read, assistant professor of apparel, housing, and resource management in Virginia Tech’s College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, has received the William and Mary Alice Park Junior Faculty Fellowship from the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The William and Mary Alice Park Junior Faculty Fellowship was established in 2015 to support faculty who enhance the educational experience of undergraduates aspiring to be real estate professionals. The fellowship appointment is for three years and is renewable.
A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 2014, Read’s research interests include urban governance structures and the economic, political, and social forces that influence the development of urban areas. His research has appeared in a range of journals, including the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Economic Development Quarterly, and Urban Affairs Review.
Read has extensive experience in international education and frequently teaches executive education courses for prominent trade organizations. Prior to his appointment at Virginia Tech, Read directed the Center for Real Estate and the master of science in real estate program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for three years. He also held a faculty appointment at the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University for six years.
He has served as a distinguished fellow of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association; a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management’s National Education Committee; and a member of regional steering committees for the Urban Land Institute and CoreNet Global.
Read received his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University, a master’s degree from the University of Florida, a law degree the University of Missouri, and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
